How to Organize your work desk for maximum efficiency
They aren’t any rules on how your work desk should be organised. It’s the reflection of your personality. Few like it be orderly and few like it to be colorful.
If you are frequently annoyed by stacked paper files or not finding something you need or constantly in a low mood, then you need to do something about it. As the saying goes, “a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind.” Keeping your workspace clean and organized can have a huge effect on your productivity, concentration, and ability to find everything you need.

1. Go Digital
Paper is still the biggest culprit of your work desk. If you haven’t done so already, migrate your calendar, to-do list and memo pad to your computer and sync them with your smartphone for greater accessibility and utility. Make the most of it and set up reminders of your meeting, scan all your documents and save the files in PDF’s.
2. Have a Two-tray system
Instead of scattering your files, you can have two trays. One is for new papers that have yet to be reviewed and another tray is for papers which have been reviewed and need to be filed.
3. Sort things by Importance
It is the best way to do it. If you’re trying to figure out where to store something in your work desk, ask yourself how often you use or need it. If it’s not very often, put that item somewhere less accessible than items you use every day.
4. Look down! Hide those wires
It just isn’t what is on your work desk, but under your work desk too. Are cables and cords messy under your desk? Never underestimate it. Use Velcro wraps and cord tamers to prevent tangles and to minimize the distraction these cables can pose.

5. Label Everything
Label all your wires accordingly. Marker should be your best friend at work. Simple things like labeling cabinets will not only save you time and doesn’t distract you.
Take out all your files and sort them with their respective labels.
6. Do a sticky note "detox"
Sticky notes are fun, but they are messy. People usually have sticky notes around their monitor which could fit under one paper easily. Avoid using them as your work space will be more organized and spacious.
7. Add a pinch of Personal touch
Your desk should be organised but not dull. Add few personal/decorative items which match your personality. It could be photos, inspirational quotes or a favourite action figurine. Just a pinch will do, as too much of it will distract you from your work and makes your work desk too messy.
8. Keep electronics hidden away
Do you have your router and modem on your work desk? What work do they have there? To sit and blink at you? Put them somewhere else so that your desk will have more space and be organised.
9. Organize your stationary
Limits your supplies by having few stationary which you regularly use.
10. Organize your computer desktop, too!
You could organise everything out on your desk and be proud of it but if your computer screen is in a mess then it’ll be more stressful. Arrange files into their respective folders and title them accordingly.
11. Keep a notebook handy
Ideally, not everything can go digital, so keep a notepad on hand. You can note down ideas or whatever needs to be addressed quickly. This helps your information to be at place instead on the pile of random papers.
12. Save the space
Designate a paper-size fit space on your dominant side as to sign or spread you’re your paperwork. Make sure you don’t let things sit there while your not working on it.
Also, group all your items together and then decide what’s worth keeping. You might have 5 scissors lying here and there, but you need only two.
13. Use up the "Wall-space"
If you sit near a wall or tall cubicle, don’t let that space go to waste. Use it cleverly to clear up your work desk space. You can hung up a cork board or DIY your old books to store more files in it.

14. Wipe it down

15. Get a Trash can
Trash can should be very accessible in a hand reach. It can be placed under your work desk.
Similarly, don’t throw away everything you don’t use. Maybe you can donate it to the person you need.
Arrange a discard bin at your office so that everyone can dump things which they are not using and people who truly needs them can snatch them for good.
16. Get your shared work space under control
Some people might have to share their work space with their colleagues, which will leave behind limited space for you to organize. Firstly, have clear boundaries and label all your materials and keep them close to you. If you have to share your supplies then keep them in between so that it doesn’t spill your area mostly.
