Birthday during pandemic? No worries....
So you got your birthday (or your friend’s birthday) coming up but you need to maintain social distancing for being responsible and safe at the moment? We got your covered.
First of all, plan for FUN!!!! Without any doubt, parties are the package of spending time and a lot of effort, so don’t forget to have fun yourself.
Secondly, plenty of us face dilemma on how to celebrate birthday during quarantine as celebrating it with friends and family outdoors seems like a far-fetched dream. But your parties shouldn’t go unmarked, but the way you celebrate has been changed.
1. Host a Virtual Birthday Party
This is a very obvious one! This is the easiest way to bring people together during quarantine. Pick one video conference application which you can comfortable between Google meet, Zoom, Google hangouts, House-party, Face-time, Skype etc. House-party offers you in-app activities as well. You can even share your screen with the people on your call and watch films or TV programmes together, but with the limited number to people at a time.
With these you can talk, play games, dance, sing and what not! Everything while social distancing for your own safety.
2. Send an E-Invite
Send out a quirky e-invite to all your guests with the related links for your virtual party. Set a start time so everyone can organise and plan their day accordingly. Importantly, if you are inviting friends/family from other countries then don’t forget to mention their local time.
3. Decorate your house like never before
Decorating is the cheapest and most fun way to celebrate a quarantine birthday
Just order some stuff from E-commerce platforms with the contactless delivery. Get creative as much as you can and if you don’t know how to decorate then pick a theme!
If you don’t want to order in or if it’s too late to be delivered then you can also use some Birthday banners, balloons, old hangings, party hats (make sure the birthday person is wearing a birthday crown) and tons of party lighting.
But at the end of it, make sure you order these much before to get some good stuff.
4. Set a Party Theme
To make your virtual party interesting, set up a theme and you can also mention it in your e-invite too. According to the party theme you can decorate your place and even button up with the theme.
Use these below recommended themes according to your group
Recommended birthday party themes:
- Beach party theme
- Bollywood theme
- Marvel theme
- Black and White theme
- 90’s fashion theme
- Best party dress theme
- Pyjama party theme
- Halloween party theme
5. Dress Up!!
Whether there is a party theme or not, you have to look good! Give your best shot and just have fun.
6. Bake a cake and pull up some snacks
Have you ever noticed a birthday party without a birthday cake? Never! Add some more popcorn, chips or samosa’s to make it even more special.
At the moment if you are avoiding to buy a cake outdoors, we recommend you to bake one.
If you have never done it then just Google it, there are tons of recipes out there, showcasing the easiest way out for you to bake with all ingredients present at home. Ask the birthday person to select their flavour, cake décor and even the toppings to make the session exciting.
7. Plan some activities
You have to keep your guests entertained without any awkward silences on your virtual party.
From common party games like Ludo, Pin it up to Call of Duty online with friends, you can pick anything. Here are a list of them which helps you to choose some and make it very memorable for all of you.
- Online escape rooms
- Virtual pub quizzes, you can even theme it around birthday person.
- Hire a musician to play your favorite songs.
- In-house treasure hunt if you have a toddler birthday party
- Never Have I Ever
- Most Likely To
- Cards Against Humanity
- Heads Up!
- Truth or dare
- “Minute to win it” type of games
- Interactive quiz
- Guess the song
- Who said it?
- “How well do you know the birthday person”! Ask you guests to fill this out before the party and during the party see who guess it correctly.
At the end have a pamper-party, the person who wins will get it all.
8. Share it with your neighbours
If you can’t share it with your friends then share it with your neighbours!! Cut a slice of cake and add some yummy snacks to it and share it without any contact.
9. Click tons of pictures
You don’t dress up and have a virtual party every alternative day. So make use of this opportunity and record every moment that it fills up your memory.
10. Old memories down the lane
You can revisit old photos and videos, make a collage of it and play it in your virtual party video call. You can even create few funny pictures to bring a smile on everyone’s face and make it a memorable moment.
Even add the screen shots of the party and have a slide show. They will serve us well to remember the crazy times during this pandemic
11. Make it a Charitable Birthday
As this might be your cheapest birthday ever, help out the needy. This pandemic requires any act of charity and do something for the ones who are less fortunate.
With no proper work out there, people are dying for food, clothes and other necessities. You can distribute food kits, corona-essential kits or the least you can do it distribute plenty of masks.
But make sure you are social distancing and follow certain measures.
For those who want to gift your friends/family, here are some of the ideas
- A funny lockdown T-shirt
- A lockdown birthday mug
- Have loved ones record a video with something to say about the birthday person.
- Send a cute/special card
- Amazon e-gift card
- Send them a boredom buster (Anything which you think will get them busy during these times.)
- Send personalised cupcakes/flowers/chocolates
- Send a house plant (for healthy lungs!)
Lockdown has helped us celebrate differently than the rest of the years to make it very out-of-the-box which makes it memorable for a lifetime.
Hopefully these ideas have inspired your imagination to make a lockdown birthday both special and memorable.
